In this barren rock island pregnant Leto took refuge after terrible hardships and wanderings to hide and protect herself from persecutive mania of Zeus's legal wife, Hera. There with the help of all female deities (except Hera) she gave birth to Artemis and Apollo.

From the very first hours of her life, Artemis is taking initiatives. Although a newborn baby, she helps her exhausted mother to give birth to her second child, Appollo, so she identifies herself to Eileithyia, ie midwife, and so the goddess of childbirth. Beautiful and brilliant Artemis, had very soon gained the appreciation of other gods. Since she was three years old,she had specific requirements related to her clothing, equipment and her escort to her most beloved occupation, hunting. She was a really stable and rigid in its judgments child, who always knew what she wanted.
